The Hard Data:  How does Agroecology Impact Climate Change?

We’re all aware that agriculture is exceeding planetary boundaries and is a significant producer of greenhouse gases. But scientists, policymakers, journalists and activists want to see the hard data and learn how it can be used to address climate change.

Thank you for participating in the Agroecology Europe webinar where Alexander Wezel and Cian Blaix, the co-authors of two recent scientific reports gave us the facts on how agroecological farming practices contribute to climate change mitigation. They also explored with Carlo Rega how their findings can be used to move debates on climate, biodiversity restauration and agriculture policy forward.

Alexander Wezel Joint author of Multiple agroecological practices use and climate change mitigation. A review.(October 2025)
Alexander Wezel is Head of Research at ISARA, and lead scientist of the CLAS (Centre for Living Agroecology and Food systems). He was also one of the lead authors of HLPE report on Agroecology of the High-Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition of the FAO.

Cian Blaix has conducted research at INRAE (France’s National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment) and Agroscope (the Swiss Confederation’s centre for agricultural research) on the topic of agroecology. He is now a farmer in Tuscany where he is putting his research into practice.
