Sustainable Food System Law : Have your say on the EU Public consultation until the 21st of July

The European Commission has opened a Public consultation asking people to provide their views on what Europe’s food system of the future should look like. The deadline to respond to the consultation is July 21, midnight Brussels time.

This is an important opportunity to contribute to the Commission’s work in developing a law proposal
for Sustainable Food Systems (expected by the end of 2023)
, called the Sustainable Food Systems
framework initiative (SFS Law) and promote agroecology
. Although the Commission is not obliged to integrate all suggestions made by stakeholders in its legislative proposal, they constitute a testimony of the public’s interest across Member States and can have a great effect influencing the direction to be taken. The SFS Law has the potential to mark a turning point for EU food systems – which we urgently need to transition to environmental, social and economic sustainability – but the Commission’s proposal must be strong and ambitious in order to achieve this.

For this reason, we need as many people as possible to provide feedback on the EU Commission’s ‘Have your say’ website. Please note that you will have to create an account to be able to answer the
public consultation, but the process is easy and straightforward!

The EU Food Policy Coalition, of which Agroecology Europe is a member, is supporting citizens in this consultation process . For more information, visit the website: https://foodpolicycoalition.eu/sfs-law/
